Buy, don’t build

Before writing a script, wrapper or helper, look for:

  1. A built-in: OS tool, language stdlib, or an existing dependency.
  2. A GitHub-backed tool that is actively maintained and has 50+ stars.

Use that. Build only when neither exists or fits, and say why in the PR.

Example: max RSS and CPU come from /usr/bin/time (-v on Linux, -l on
macOS), not a custom measurement wrapper. For timelines use psrecord, for
hardware counters perf stat.
